With her particular androgynous looks, Louise Brooks is the star of this silent film classic from 1929 created by the great director G.W. Pabst. Pandora’s Box is filled with spectacular clothes, intrigue, jealousy and murder as well as a, for its time, daring subtheme on gender and sexuality. Brooks’ iconic bob haircut inspired the fashion world and has since become a hallmark of this period. The legendary designer Jean Patou, whose particular style choices for the film still influence fashion today, created her amazing costumes. Along with films such as Metropolis, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and The Blue Angel, Pandora’s Box is a highlight of Weimar Germany’s booming and experimental film age.
