LA BELLE ET LA BÊTE (1946)
A French film classic including difficult love, extravagant costume creations, and great emotions. Belle is forced to save her father from living in a magical castle with the beast, an enchanted prince. The beast falls in love with the beautiful Belle and offers her marriage, which she repeatedly denies. But is it possible that she ends up falling for the good-natured beast? Jean Cocteau’s visionary version of the French fairytale can be enjoyed over and over again due to his picturesque poetry. Cardin has created many of the film’s beautiful costumes, and they manifest his special craftsmanship and creativity. The film became a stepping stone to his further career in both film and design.
