How do we design fashion for a better and more sustainable world? With this year’s short film program Sustainability, we have selected films, both old and new, that investigates themes such as climate change, new technologies, consumer habits and ethics related to the contemporary fashion industry and design as an environmental issue.

We believe that cultural issues can be discussed and communicated in a new way, through the medium of film. In visually and aesthetically interesting ways, topics can be displayed more creatively which outcomes that people can get drawn into it more easily. In the 2017 Copenhagen Fashion Film festival we focused on sustainability, an important subject when it comes to fashion. But also a subject that sometimes can be forgotten in the fashion industry as well as the consumers.

This programme focuses on the clothes we wear, the people who make it and the effect the clothing industry has on our planet. With equally skepticism and optimism, we wish with this program to cast light on the intertwined relationship between fashion and our surroundings. You’ll see films that spans the genres of fashion, industry, bio art, science and visual narrative, and aims to concretising and debates the fashion industry’s impact on environment. The film Bread and Roses conceives how to explore fashion as a “dream” within an industrial space, a place where creativity and women’s liberation spread with sustainability, the ecology and equality. ETHETICS (ethics+aesthetics) explores  and celebrates ethical and socially responsible brands around the world and EKEKO is a film revolving around consumerism.
